The Honeymoon of a Lifetime
It’s the part of marriag
e that some people look forward to more than the wedding itself. However, I had barely thought about our honeymoon until after our amazing wedding weekend ended. Then, all of a sudden it became real….we are married and now we are about to take the trip of a lifetime. Oh, and I need to pack….a lot.
Lucky for us we did something that I would absolutely recommend to everyone who gets married – we waited a few days before leaving on our honeymoon. That way, the day after the wedding we weren’t scrambling to get ready to leave, and had time to relax with our family and friends who were still in town. Plus, if we were to leave right after the wedding, we would have had to have packed before the wedding even happened…and I can’t imagine adding that stress to everything else on the list!

So a well-rested, four days after the wedding we excitedly boarded a plane to Barcelona, Spain to embark on a 15-day cruise (on a beautiful Royal Caribbean ship!) around the Mediterranean. A trip that would include visits to Spain, France, Italy, Turkey and Greece – a dream come true for both of us.
But no matter what you do for your honeymoon, I realized a few things on this trip. My husband and I both love to travel and have always made times to take nice trips together, but this was different…
1. We went somewhere new – I was so happy that we chose to visit a part of the world so different from anywhere we had ever been…a part of the world neither of us had seen and we, therefore, got to enjoy for the first time together. It made for a lot of very special memories.
2. We took more time for ourselves – While we had endless options on the ship to stay up late and party, we focused more on ourselves this time around. Don’t get me wrong – we went to shows, hit up the casino and drank plenty of good wine, but this was a time to relax and take it all in. And as a result, our trip felt long and we came home well-rested and ready to get back to life.
3. We didn’t hold back – this was the trip of a lifetime and we knew it. So we enjoyed local food and drink, explored each city to its fullest and bought gifts for ourselves and our families. And we came home with no regrets.
What did you do for your honeymoon? And more importantly, did you learn anything from the experience that you can share?
